Tuning morphology of Pickering emulsions stabilised by biodegradable PLGA nanoparticles: How PLGA characteristics influence emulsion properties

چکیده

In this study, we proved that the stabilisation of Pickering emulsions by polymer nanoparticles (NPs) heavily depends on characteristics. We prepared NPs with four poly(lactide–co–glycolide) polymers (PLGA), different molar masses (14,000 and 32,000 g/mol) end groups (acid or alkylester). were either bare (without stabilising polymer) covered polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). mixing NP aqueous suspensions various amounts oil (Miglyol 812 N). First, wettability was directly affected PLGA group: ester-ending led to more hydrophobic NPs, compared acid-ending PLGA. This effect group could be slightly enhanced smaller mass. Thus, stabilised types (W/O/W W/O), following Finkle’s rule. However, characteristics masked when PVA, as PVA drove O/W emulsions. Secondly, mass also influenced its glass transition temperature (Tg), spectacular consequences emulsion formation. Indeed, shortest exhibited a Tg close room temperature, measured in emulsion. Tg, easily exceeded during emulsification process, soft solid emulsion, network debris.

G-CSF loaded biodegradable PLGA nanoparticles prepared by a single oil-in-water emulsion method.

A new formulation method was developed for preparing poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles loaded with recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF). Lyophilized rhG-CSF powder and PLGA polymer were directly co-dissolved in a single organic phase, and the resulting solution was dispersed into an aqueous solution. PLGA nanoparticles encapsulating rhG-CSF were...

Emulsions stabilised by whey protein microgel particles: towards food-grade Pickering emulsions.

We have investigated a new class of food-grade particles, whey protein microgels, as stabilisers of triglyceride-water emulsions. The sub-micron particles stabilized oil-in-water emulsions at all pH with and without salt. All emulsions creamed but exhibited exceptional resistance to coalescence. Clear correlations exist between the properties of the microgels in aqueous dispersion and the resul...

PLGA Nanoparticles Formed by Single- or Double-emulsion with Vitamin E-TPGS

Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) is a biocompatible member of the aliphatic polyester family of biodegradable polymers. PLGA has long been a popular choice for drug delivery applications, particularly since it is already FDA-approved for use in humans in the form of resorbable sutures. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs are encapsulated in PLGA particles via single- or double-emulsion. Brief...

Pickering emulsions stabilized by surface-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles.

Unmodified Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles do not stabilize Pickering emulsions of a polar oil like butyl butyrate. In order to obtain stable emulsions, the Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles were modified by either carboxylic acid (RCOOH) or silane coupling agents (RSi(OC(2)H(5))(3)) to increase their hydrophobicity. The influence of such surface modification on the stability of the resultant Pickering emulsions...
